‘The Haves And The Have Nots’ Star Renée Lawless On Working With Tyler Perry

Renée Lawless is a veteran Broadway actress, but it’s her role on a scripted television drama that’s earned her national recognition.
She plays Katheryn Cryer on the hit Oprah Winfrey Network show “The Haves and the Have Nots,” a series created, written and directed by Atlanta’s own Tyler Perry. Katheryn Cryer is among the titular “Haves” of the program, a matriarch worth millions of dollars.
While that fact alone does not sound relatable to most viewers, Renée Lawless told “City Lights” host Lois Reitzes that there’s more to the story:
“Most women could not relate to having 50 million dollars, but 50 million women can relate to another woman’s problems, and my character Katheryn Cryer has her fair share of problems.”
“The Haves and the Have Nots” airs Tuesday evenings at 9 on OWN.
