The registration deadline to vote in this year’s May 20 primary election is less than a week away.

Monday, April 21, is the last day Georgians can register to vote.

“Citizens can register online. They can download an app that the secretary of state’s office just rolled out to register with their smart phone,” said Fulton County elections head Richard Barron.

Monday, April 21, is the last day Georgians can register to vote.

“Citizens can register online. They can download an app that the secretary of state’s office just rolled out to register with their smart phone,” said Fulton County elections head Richard Barron.

Barron said people who choose to register online need to have a valid state driver’s license or ID card. He said prospective voters can also still register the traditional way by sending an application through the mail or turning one in at any state-designated location.

DeKalb County Elections Director Maxine Daniels said the online registration tool is already making her job easier, and she encouraged residents to use the new system.

“When you go online, they will be handled where we basically look at the information, hit a button and it’s in the system,” Daniels said. “So if somebody puts in their social security number wrong, or their driver’s license wrong or their date of birth wrong, that will be caught.”

Calls to Secretary of State Brian Kemp’s office were not returned before airtime.

Races on this year’s primary ballot include those for governor, U.S. Senate, and a number of congressional seats.
