In the wide world of puppetry, Atlanta is a landmark city, home to the Center for Puppetry Arts, treasure troves of original Muppets and local luminaries like the Krewe of the Grateful Gluttons. Soon, the Atlanta puppetry community welcomes a visiting dignitary, the international celebrity puppet “Little Amal.”

The 12-foot puppet is a representation of a 10-year-old Syrian refugee girl created by the Handspring Puppet Company to embody the goal of protecting human rights worldwide. “Little Amal” visits several Atlanta sites on Oct. 8 and 10, presented by The Walk Productions.

In this interview, “City Lights” host Lois Reitzes speaks with  Amir Nizar Zuabi, artistic director of The Walk Productions, the nonprofit organizing the world tour for “Little Amal.”

“I always find this very beautiful that a refugee, a 10-year-old foreigner, is bringing together a lot of people to the streets and creating a moment of joy for a community,” Zuabi said.

“Little Amal” stops in Atlanta on Oct. 8 and 10, and you can find out more about her upcoming appearances here.
