With a decisive 65-to-7 victory over Texas Christian University last night in the College Football Playoff National Championship, the University of Georgia established itself as the touchstone of college football.
Football historian Patrick Garbin told WABE’s “All Thing Considered” he considers this to be the best team in school history.
Garbin is a freelance journalist who has been recognized as “the foremost historian of Georgia Bulldogs football.” He has written nine books related to University of Georgia football.
Georgia, which was the favorite coming into the game, is the first team to repeat as national champion since Alabama a decade ago. Georgia is the first team ever to win the College Football Playoff National title in back-to-back years.
Garbin said a lot of the credit goes to coach Kirby Smart, who has boosted the team’s potential with a consistent winning record and strong recruiting.
