Pride Month began on Saturday, and with it the start of a flood of events all around Georgia to celebrate the occasion throughout June and well into the fall.
The state’s largest Pride celebration — Atlanta Pride — takes place in October, but it’s far from the only city in Georgia with a Pride festival. Columbus, Athens, Augusta, Smyrna, Rome, Savannah, Carrollton and other Georgia cities join in on the celebration too. And the list keeps growing.
Atlanta pro sports teams including the Dream, the Braves and United all host Pride night games in June. And there are scads of other ways LGBTQ people and allies are celebrating across Atlanta and Georgia.
Below is a sampling of Pride events in Georgia. Know about one that we should add to this list? Let us know!
And check out WABE’s newly updated Beyond Pride page, which includes a number of in-depth feature stories on LGBTQ issues and people in Georgia. A team of WABE reporters is hard at work on a fresh batch of stories that will be added to the page over the next few months.
The page also includes LGBTQ Atlantans in their own words, the Pride events calendar, an interactive LGBTQ Atlanta history tour and LGBTQ coverage from other NPR member stations across the South.
