In the summer of 1979 Edward Smith and Alfred Evans disappeared.

Both were 14.

Both bodies were found days later.

They are believed to be the first victims of the Atlanta Child Murders that spanned from 1979 to 1981.

At least 28 children, adolescence and adults were killed. The late Maynard Jackson was Atlanta’s mayor at the time and kept watch over a city gripped in fear. His ex-wife, Bunnie Jackson was charged with standing guard over home and their children.

Maynard Jackson III was just 8. Both joined Lisa Rayam on “Morning Edition.”
