5000+ Still Without Power in Fayette County

Power outages continue to be the main challenge in Fayette County, but things there are improving.

As of 5:00 p.m. Thursday, there were still about 5,400 customers in Fayette County without electric power. That is down from nearly 7,000 early this afternoon. Crews from Georgia Power and Coweta/Fayette EMC were working to get service restored. All roads in the county have been open since this morning.

Fayette Emergency Management Agency Chief Pete Nelms says the Emergency Operations Center has now closed.

A warming shelter at Fayette Middle School will stay open all night. It housed as many as 30 people and is now down to fewer than a dozen, but Chief Nelms says that he has heard from several residents who expect to spend tonight at the shelter if their electric service has not been restored.
