New Developments In MARTA Shooting Death of Teen

An investigation continues into the shooting death of 19-year old Joetavious Stafford.

He was killed last month by MARTA police officer Robert Waldo.

Today WABE has learned through sources familiar with the case, that they have seen a surveillance video showing events immediately surrounding the shooting.

If true, does the Georgia Bureau of Investigation also have that video?

WABE's Rose Scott has more.

According to officials who asked to remain anonymous, the surveillance camera shows officer Waldo drawing his gun and in the next frame, Stafford is seen lying in a pool of blood.

There's no discrepancy Waldo shot the teen.

There is security video of a potential eye witness.

But, this is the first time anyone has claimed there's video footage of some events related to the shooting.

GBI spokesperson John Bankhead would not comment on those claims but did say the investigation continues.

Some major unanswered questions include

Was the shooting justified and did Stafford have a gun?

A MARTA spokesman to the Atlanta Journal Constitution, the teen did.

Since then, MARTA has declined comment.

According to the original MARTA police report, Waldo was one of several officers that arrived on the scene of a fight among teenagers at the Vine City Marta station.

It goes on to say Joetavious Stafford, the suspect, received fatal gunshot wounds.

Meanwhile, officer Waldo remains on paid administrative leave.

The GBI will present its findings to Fulton County District Attorney Paul Howard.

Then Howard's office will decide whether to seek any criminal charges.
