A trip to Harlem by way of Buckhead for a look at the Atlanta History Center's exhibit on the Apollo Theater and the legends that sprang from its stage.
Atlanta, GA – The Apollo Theater has been a beacon of African American culture for the better part of a century. Its stage in Harlem has launched the careers of countless performers?many of whom originated right here in Georgia. It's with that nod toward the south's contribution to popular music that the Atlanta History Center is hosting the exhibit Ain't Nothing Like the Real Thing: How the Apollo Theater Shaped American Entertainment. WABE's Lois Reitzes paid them a visit and got a tour from the Center's Senior Military Historian and Curator, Gordon Jones.
