Stopping Child Sex Trafficking Advocates and Supporters Rally For Lobby Day

– Today's overcast and mist didn't stop hundreds from participating in Lobby Day at the state capitol beginning with an outdoor rally.

As WABE's Rose Scott reports, stopping child sex exploitation was the focus.

Under grey skies White roses were everywhere as advocates and supporters gave the flowers to lawmakers.

The roses represent the numbers of girls exploited every day in Georgia

Lithonia resident Linda Edwards came to speak up for victims.

“I just wanted to fight against that and just give a voice for some of the young girls and women out there streets”

Juliana McConnell is a lobbyist for various organizations that are leading the charge to stop child sexual exploitation.

She says Lobby Day shows legislators not only how many Georgians are concerned but also:

“to make them aware of the problem and the type of problem here in Georgia, this year the main purpose is strictly education and awareness”

McConnell says the organizations will be paying close attention to any new legislation that might support their efforts.
