Ethics Reform Bills Gain New Momentum in the Legislature: A Republican View

– Add ethics to the list of priorities for the coming session of the Georgia Legislature.

House Judiciary Committee Chairman Wendell Willard, a Republican from Sandy Springs, says he is putting together a package of bills: among other things, Willard wants to ban the practice of candidates funneling leftover money from previous campaigns, through friendly donors, to their new campaigns.

Recently, former Judiciary Committee Chair Mary Margaret Oliver, a Decatur Democrat told W-A-B-E she has a reform package of her own. It would impose tighter limits on campaign contributions and gifts from lobbyists.

Today, Willard told W-A-B-E he's willing to work with Oliver particularly on stopping the automatic growth in campaign donations.
