Sweetwater grows
For Sweetwater Brewery, a steady growth in demand has resulted in an expansion. The Atlanta-based beer company showed off its new facilities today.
Since it first started selling its craft beer in 1997, Sweetwater officials say the company’s sales have grown by at least 25% each year. Marketing director Steven Farris says 2011 was no exception.
“We could have sold more beer,” said Farris. “But, we just couldn’t make more beer in order to sell it.”
That’s why the company is spending $19 million on an expansion.
“We’re putting in more fermentation space, putting in a bigger brew house,” said Farris. “We can quintuple our output.”
Sweetwater started in a 14,000 square foot building. Now, it’s expanding to 115,000 square feet. The company sells beer in Georgia, Tennessee, Alabama as well as North and South Carolina. The list of states may grow later this year.
