Messiah, Unabridged with the Atlanta Sacred Chorale

Handel’s Messiah is one of the Christian world’s most popular musical works ever. Containing hummable tunes, rousing choruses, virtuoso arias, and deeply spiritual texts, the full piece clocks in at around two hours. So it’s not often that you hear of a group performing the entire work.  However, the Atlanta Sacred Chorale is doing just that this weekend.  Along with the performance is an exhibition of an original Messiah score and a 1611 King James Bible, the source text for the oratorio.  Two of the men behind the concert, Eric Nelson of the Chorale and Michael Morgan, organist at Central Presbyterian Church, paid us a visit—Michael began by opening a suitcase and producing these very large books…

The Atlanta Sacred Chorale will be performing Handel’s Messiah in its entirety this Sunday at 4 pm in Emory University’s Schwartz Center for the Performing Arts.
