Oglethorpe Men’s Golf Brings Home Another National Championship
They are the best in the nation.
The Oglethorpe University men’s golf team captured this year’s NCAA D-III Men’s Golf Championship.
Let’s face it; golf is not an easy sporting competition.
You have good days and you have bad ones.
But during the recent NCAA D-III championships, Oglethorpe men’s golf team had some pretty good days.
Jim Owen is Oglethorpe’s director of men and women’s golf.
He says the team’s success is not built on individual play.
“Everything we do is for the good of the five of us,” says Owen. “We do it from a complete team perspective.”
That approach is something Owen has been preaching all season long.
The NCAA championship he says, caps off a great year.
“It was a thrill to see those smiles,” said the longtime golf coach. “We had two first team all Americans, one academic American, two all-district players and four all conference players plus the national freshman of the year and the player of the year.”
This is Oglethorpe’s second golf championship under head coach Jim Owen.
It also makes the institution just the sixth school to win multiple championships over the last 37 years of the event.
