State agencies work to bolster Georgia’s farm export business

Two Georgia agencies are teaming up to boost the State’s largest industry.  It could mean more business overseas.

On a recent trade mission to Turkey, officials for the Department of Economic Development and the State’s agriculture department, agreed to work together.  Officials say the partnership should help the State market Georgia’s farm products more effectively and efficiently.

According to this week’s Atlanta Business Chronicle, the agriculture department will work with farmers and livestock producers interested in export opportunities.  Meanwhile economic development officials at the State’s 10 international trade offices will assist with contacts overseas.

In November, the Agriculture Department closed the only international trade office it had, in Belgium

Agriculture is the State’s largest business.  Georgia is the nation’s top exporter of poultry and peanuts.  It ranks second in the nation for cotton exports.
