Douglas County being considered for tech and corporate business park

A $200 million technology and corporate business park could go up in Douglas County.  It could be a magnet for new companies and jobs.

The proposed Riverside at Sweetwater Creek development could attract 1,500 new jobs to the west Atlanta county.  According to this week’s Atlanta Business Chronicle, the project could house corporate headquarters, research and development and data centers.

Development officials say the Riverside project would help diversify Douglas County’s economy.  Currently it’s dominated by retail and distribution businesses.  That’s left the average salary there at about $31,000, officials say, that’s the lowest in the 10 county metro area.

While competition is stiff for attracting new headquarters and data centers, Douglas County could benefit from being an Atlanta suburb.  Officials say they’re close enough to Atlanta to access skilled workers.  Large companies including Google and AT&T have already set up data centers there.

Construction on the Riverside at Sweetwater Creek Development could begin by early next year.
