Atlanta’s Catholic Archbishop Says Rallies Protesting Obama Administration Mandate are Nonpartisan
On Friday evening, June 22nd, at the Marist School north of Atlanta, the Catholic Archdiocese of Atlanta held a big rally, denouncing a recent healthcare mandate as a threat to religious liberty. At issue is a rule in the new health care law, which requires some Catholic institutions–but not churches themselves–to cover contraceptives for their employees in their insurance plans. The list of speakers at the rally included some top Georgia Republicans, and some critics have charged the Archdiocese has moved beyond a position of principle, to one of partisan politics. WABE’s Denis O’Hayer spoke with Atlanta’s Catholic Archbishop Wilton Gregory.
