City of Roswell Supports the Arts
After years of planning, the City of Roswell is putting its money where its mouth is when it comes to the arts. As the city’s newly announced “Contract for Cultural Services,” will provide financial support for arts and cultural organizations.
The City of Roswell joins the city of Atlanta and Fulton County as one of the few, local government- based programs to offer funding for nonprofit arts and cultural organizations.
An unspecified number of contracts will provide up to $5,000 in funding for ‘arts and cultural services’, project support, and arts education. There will also be $1000 for the development of new ventures.
Roswell’s historic and cultural affairs manager, Morgan Timmis, says a thriving arts and cultural scene has as positive impact a community in many ways.
“Specifically there is a proven economic impact. So our hope is this will help our organizations grow and develop such that they continue to thrive and attract greater audiences and more participants.”
One goal of the program is to level the playing field for some smaller organizations that don’t already have financial support, especially those in underserved areas. But any of the 20 or so arts and cultural organizations in Roswell are welcome to apply.
The proposal deadline is August 17.
Informational workshops will be held Monday, July 16, mandatory for anyone applying.
