Public Broadcasting Atlanta Salutes Monica Pearson
After 37 years with WSB –TV Monica Pearson anchored her final newscast today.
Monica Pearson broke many barriers in this media market.
She was the first woman and first African American to anchor the evening news.
Monica’s a successful trail blazer who set the bar very high.
But with Monica, she always helped those aiming for that bar.
She may not remember but I once sought advice from Monica at an Atlanta Glory women’s basketball game.
She told to me to stay aggressive and be fair in my reporting.
Monica Pearson recently sat down with her longtime friend Valerie Jackson who asked about the decision to retire.
“I can’t put it into words, you know what you know when you know and it’s time for me to do something else. It’s time for me. We’ve got people in place who can do the job and they have their own personalities and their own way of doing it and so I felt comfortable in being able to walk away.”
She may be walking away from the anchor desk but Monica Pearson leaves a journalist’s trail exemplified with class, professionalism and always a parting smile.
I salute you, Monica.
From everyone here at Public Broadcasting Atlanta, we too salute Monica Pearson and wish her well.
