Thousands head to Turner Field for Komen 3-Day Closing Ceremony
The Susan G. Komen 3-Day walk wrapped up yesterday afternoon. Thousands of people flooded the parking lot of Turner Field in celebration and solidarity. Aleck Ragsdale reports
These 1,500 women and men spent the last three days walking 20 miles a day to get here. But by the end of it, nobody was complaining about their aches and pains. They were just happy to celebrate in this shared accomplishment. 55-year-old Beverly Bartelson of Atlanta is a two-time breast cancer survivor and this is her second walk.
“Unless you’re in this situation, no one really understands. It’s so great to walk with people who are walking for other family members or friends. It’s just a great bonding experience”.
Each participant has to raise at least $2,300 to walk. This year’s 3-day raised $4,200,000 for the Komen Foundation
