Georgia Gas Prices Fall 9 Cents
Georgia drivers will have plenty to smile about at the pump this week. Gasoline prices have plunged nine cents, putting the average price at $3.53 a gallon. Gas prices in the metro Atlanta area are about 15 cents lower than they were a month ago. AAA spokesperson Jessica Brady says the main reason for the rapid price drop is a decline in global fuel demand.
“The European debt crisis continues to weigh very heavily on the market, causing demand numbers over there to fall substantially,” Brady says, “And here in the U.S., we’re seeing demand numbers drop as well. They’ve dropped about 6.2% since August alone.”
Brady expects prices to continue their downward trend this week.
“Hopefully, as substantially as we saw this past week of a nine to ten-cent drop,” she says, “It is possible. There aren’t too many factors out there right now that look like they have the potential to really push prices upward.”
Brady says prices are expected to keep shrinking into mid-November in time for the holiday travel season.
