Governor Nathan Deal Monday is scheduled to talk about the recommendation to suspend six DeKalb County school board members.
In an advisory Friday, Deal did not say whether he’ll act on the state education board’s recommendation. However, some DeKalb school board members aren’t taking chances.
Former DeKalb school board chair Eugene Walker today told WABE’s Michelle Wirth he and other school board members have asked their attorney to file suit. While Walker wouldn’t disclose details of the lawsuit, news reports indicate the federal lawsuit seeks to prevent Deal from suspending DeKalb school board members.
DeKalb school attorney Bob Wilson has yet to return WABE’s interview requests on the matter.
In December, the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS) placed DeKalb’s school system on accredited probation for board governance issues.
