WABE's John Lorinc talks to Ben Jones, who is among the surviving cast members appearing at the "Dukes of Hazzard" reunion taking place this weekend in Byron, GA.
It’ll never be mistaken for “Masterpiece Theater” but “The Dukes of Hazzard” hasn’t burned out or faded away.
The surviving members of the show are taking part in a reunion this weekend in Byron, GA. More than 60,000 people are expected to attend.
Organizers say tickets for the reunion were sold in all 50 states and in nine countries.
“It’s just a beloved thing. I don’t get it, but it makes people happy, so I’m all for that,” says Ben Jones, who played Cooter Davenport, one of the Duke family’s best friends.
Jones says the program has crossed generation lines, because the kids who watched the show originally are now watching re-runs with their kids.
“It’s a harmless show. Nobody really gets hurt, nobody bleeds, nobody cusses. It has the best slapstick comedy. And it’s got Daisy Duke. I mean, what’s not to like?”
The program, which was set in the fictional Hazzard County, GA was briefly filmed in the Peach State before production was moved to California.
