The Atlanta Falcons this week welcomed a new player to the team and kept one that was expected to retire.

Steven Jackson has been in the league for 10 years and although he has mileage on those legs, the former St. Louis Rams running back is now coming to Atlanta.

I.J. Rosenberg calls this a huge upgrade.

“It’s adding one of the best running backs in the NFL to an already good offense.”

Rosenberg is president of Score Atlanta, a multimedia sports marketing company.

He says with the addition of Steven Jackson and news that Falcons tight end Tony Gonzalez is coming back, the Falcons will still be a top tier team in the league.

But he also says this allows the Falcons to focus on the other side of the ball.

“You look at the way Thomas Dimitroff, the general manager has worked since he’s been here; he typically gets one free agent a year. I think he’s going to focus on the defensive side and get some power up front while also possibly getting another linebacker or two.”

The NFL draft takes place next month.

As of right now the Atlanta Falcons have the 30th pick in the first round.
