The Art of Sheep Shearing

David Barasoain / WABE Production

All kinds of animals are raised in and around Atlanta.   That includes goats, ostrich, llamas and a variety of other barnyard animals.

However, not many Georgia farms raise sheep and as a result, the art of shearing– the process where the wool – or fleece is cut off–is almost lost here in the state, but not everywhere.    And certainly not on one farm just east of Atlanta in Covington. WABE’s David Barasoain spoke to sheep shearer Scott Fuss about the annual process.

The Atlanta History Center is hosting their Sheep To Shawl event this Saturday morning starting at 10:30 if you’re interested in seeing this process up close. You can find more information at Atlanta PlanIt.
