Little Time Left to Mail Tax Returns

If you’re filing your taxes the old-fashioned way this year, you have a little more time to get to the post office to mail in your return. But, the old midnight mail-in deadline is becoming a thing of the past.
The U.S. Postal Service says several metro-area locations will have extended hours Monday. But spokesperson Michael Miles says just one Atlanta post office will be open until midnight.
“The Atlanta main post office 3900 Crown Road is the only post office that will be open and accepting tax returns until midnight,” he says.
Miles says most locations aren’t open late anymore because the majority of taxpayers file online. And, he says, if you drop your return off in one of those blue boxes outside the post office, check the final collection time listed on the box.
“Even if you get them into those blue boxes before midnight, if it’s after that posted collection time, the return’s not going to be collected until the next day,” Miles says.
Miles says to make sure you have sufficient postage or your filing will be returned.
