The Big Peach chain of running stores held a Mile of Silence run at each of its seven locations in metro Atlanta on Tuesday morning.
Hundreds of runners in metro Atlanta hit the road early Tuesday morning for a special, last minute event.
Those who took part in the event described it as therapeutic.
“Running in silence, I have to tell you was absolutely one of the most incredible, spiritual feelings. It was amazing. The energy was palpable,” says Karen Kaye, a spokesperson for the company.
In response to the attacks at the Boston Marathon, Atlanta officials say they’ll increase security at the upcoming Peachtree Road Race.
Kaye has run in that race for the past 15-years, and will be there once again this July.
“I will embrace doing that race more than ever this year. It’s important to get out there and I hope that people who are not running the race are volunteering, are coming out and lining that course and cheering everybody on, and showing that we’re not afraid of a few goofballs who kind of mess things up for the rest of us.”
Kaye says all of the Boston Marathon runners she knew personally are safe.
