Lake Lanier is starting the recreation season with a full pool of water. It is at its highest level in more than three years.

That’s good news for the Lake Lanier Convention and Visitors Bureau.

Bureau president Stacey Dickson says inquiries started picking up about a month ago when Lanier hit full winter pool, and the phone and Internet traffic haven’t slowed down.

“Just how we’re pacing in actual reservations and bookings at the hotels and inquiries about boat rental, it’s going to be a banner year for the lake,” says Dickson.

The lake is at 1072.29 feet, its highest level since February 2010.

Memorial Day is the official kick-off of Lanier’s recreation season, but Dickson says boaters have been on the lake since the weather warmed a couple of weeks ago.

The Bureau will host a boating safety day on Saturday, May 18, from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m., at Sunset Cove.
