Fulton County Selects Top Finalist for Elections Chief
The Fulton County Board of Registration and Elections has selected Richard Barron as its top finalist to serve as director of the Fulton County Department of Registrations and Elections. Barron currently serves as Elections Administrator for Williamson County, Texas.Michelle Wirth reports.
Barron’s selection comes after recent election troubles and the resignation of the county’s former elections director after he served jail time due to a probation violation. Fulton County Board of Registrations and Elections chairperson Mary Carole Cooney says Barron has supervised 30 election cycles.
“He is a professional who knows how to handle almost all of the issues that we’ve had and that we’ve asked him about, with experience in the hardware, experience with training poll workers, experience with developing manuals.”
In January, county election officials appeared before the State Election Board due to numerous complaints about the November election. During the election, some county voters had to cast provisional ballots because their names could not be found on voter rolls.
State officials are continuing to investigate and are currently in discussions with county election officials. The Fulton County Board of Commissioners will vote on Barron’s appointment on May 15.
