Springtime Safety Reminder: Dangers of Hot Cars

There have already been 12 reports this year of children being left in vehicles used by childcare programs Georgia.

That is according to Georgia Department of Early Care and Learning spokesman Reg Griffin who says, even if the temperature is in the mid-70s outside, the inside of a car can rise to 140 degrees in a matter of minutes.

That is dangerous for anyone, but children are especially vulnerable. “In just a short period of time, even when the temperature is fairly normal outside, you could actually have serious physical damage to the child, or it could result in death,” says Griffin.

Griffin says that, between 1998 and 2012, 20 Georgia children died after being left in cars.
