Metro Atlanta Gas Prices Drop a Nickel

It hasn’t been an especially cruel summer for commuters in Georgia.

The average price for a gallon of regular, unleaded in metro Atlanta is $3.48, according to AAA.

That’s down about five cents from last week, and a dime from last month.

However, it’s still 22 cents higher from this time last year.

As for the next few weeks, analysts predict prices will see-saw up and down about five-cents in both directions.

“It’s really just a combination of the value of the dollar going up and down, affecting wholesale prices.  The continued tensions overseas, and of course, supply and demand numbers,” says AAA spokeswoman Jessica Brady.

The state-wide average is $3.43, a decrease of about four cents from last week and six cents from last month.

“The Midwest had a bunch of refinery issues that have caused their prices to be upward of $4 per gallon.  And then you have areas like California and Hawaii that tend to have very high prices.  So, at the current moment the Southeast, we’re doing pretty well,” says Brady.

The national average is $3.57, down about four cents from last week.
