Carillion At Stone Mountain
Mabel Sharp started playing the Carillon at Stone Mountain Park in 1974. The carillon was built for the 1964 world’s fair and commissioned by Mrs. Robert Woodruff. At 660 bell rods it was, at the time, twice the size of the any carillon ever built. Today there are 732 bell rods in the Stone Mountain Carillon. While she’s hesitant to give her age she says she is, “Old enough to know better but too young to resist.”
