An Original Dreamgirl, Jennifer Holliday Talks Fighting for Her Legacy

June is African American Music Appreciation Month and WABE has featured interviews with four Atlanta based artist.

All are at different stages in the profession and are reflecting on their career, inspirations and the current state of music for women of color.

The series concludes with singer and Tony Award-winning actress Jennifer Holliday.

She started her career on Broadway in musicals such as Your Arms Too Short to Box With God and Dreamgirls.

Holliday’s performance in Dreamgirls was colossal and that propelled into a very successful recording career.

Holliday’s debut single, from Dreamgirls is, “And I Am Telling You I’m Not Going”.

Jennifer Holliday rarely does interviews and in the finale of the series she sits down with WABE’s Rose Scott to talk about career, the legacy of Broadway’s Dreamgirls and the 2006 Dreamgirls movie version.
