Cobb Police, Fire Under Investigation for Steroid Use

Cobb County

Cobb County is investigating allegations of steroid use on its police force and in its fire department.

The area narcotics unit got a tip that a Cobb firefighter was using and possibly distributing steroids without a prescription.

That tip spurred an internal investigation according to county spokesman Robert Quigley. “When we got this information, it was a former employee, it was claimed, had used the drugs back in 2010,” said Quigley. “And so, as we began to look backwards and interviewing people associated, that’s when we determined that there were other employees involved.”

So far, the investigation is focusing on six people. One firefighter and one police officer have already resigned. Three firefighters are on administrative leave, and one remains on duty pending the outcome of the investigation.

Quigley says he expects the probe to take about two more weeks. The county has a zero-tolerance policy for use or possession of any controlled substance unless directed by a physician.
