Falcons and Matt Ryan Reach $100 Million Agreement
The deal is done.
Thursday, July 25th, Atlanta Falcons quarterback Matt Ryan agreed to a contract extension with the team.
What does one say after signing a five year $103.75 million contract?
“It’s, I really don’t, it’s awesome and I’m happy, I’m happy to be here,” said Ryan.
Actually Matt Ryan did say more during Thursday’s press conference.
He thanked everyone else including Falcons owner Arthur Blank, his agents and the fans.
That’s typical Matt Ryan, a guy that doesn’t like to talk too much about himself.
During the press conference, Blank gushed over Ryan’s work ethic and maturation progress.
“In every sense in the word and every definition and every profile, Matt is a franchise quarterback.”
Blank jokingly suggested Ryan could become an investor in the team’s new stadium.
Sportswriter Craig Sager Jr, of Score Atlanta, says Ryan’s career warrants the 20-million dollar yearly salary.
“Every year he’s improved. He led the league in passing percentage last year and then you look at his home record, it speaks for itself. But then even on the road last year he was perhaps even better. He completed seventy two percent of his passes on the road…twenty one touchdowns and only 5 interceptions.”
That’s on the field.
“Off the field he’s not as outgoing as some of these other guys. He’s all about busy and kind of flies under the radar,” says Sager.
Next for Ryan, according to Sager, is not just getting to the Super Bowl but winning the championship.
The Falcons regular season starts September 8th on the road in New Orleans.
