Atlanta Exceeds Yearly Rainfall Average
Atlanta has received more rain in the first eight months of 2013 than it normally gets for an entire year.
As of Sunday, the National Weather Service in Peachtree City says Atlanta received more than 50.43 inches of rain. National Weather Service meteorologist, Brian Lynn, says the amount is almost ¾ of an inch above what it usually receives for a full year.
“Weather patterns are just that, they happen in patterns, and several of the previous years were quite dry, well Mother Nature has a tendency for making up for that, and she’s doing it this year.”
Lynn says if the rain continues for the rest of year, Atlanta could break a record.
“The record rainfall was set in 1948 and the amount was 71.18 inches. We got another less than 21 inches to go, so if you just continue out the rates we’ve been doing we’re on pace to break it, but if get a real dry spell in the fall that could change.”
Lynn says a getting dry fall will depend on how active the remainder of the hurricane season is this year.
