GA Hosts Tax-Free Weekend for Water, Power Items
For the second time in as many years, Georgians will have a tax-free weekend on certain items that conserve water and energy.
Starting Friday, so-called WaterSense products, including faucets, toilets and showerheads, are tax-free.
State officials say WaterSense items conserve at least 20% more water than typical ones.
“A faucet aerator, for example, adds air to the water coming out of the faucet. So you still get soapy and can rinse off, but you're just using less water,” says Grace Trimble, with the North Georgia Water Planning District.
Trimble says the average person uses 100 gallons of water per day.

EnergyStar products are also tax-free this weekend.
“When you save electricity, you're also saving water, because electricity is the biggest water-user in the state of Georgia. Also when you use less electricity heating hot water on these EnergyStar appliances, you're using less water,” says Marilyn Hall, a water conservation coordinator with Athens-Clarke County.
State officials say this deal applies to individual items under $1,500.
The tax exemption does not go toward items that are bought for business or trade use.
