The Fulton County school district will soon move its headquarters from south Fulton County to Sandy Springs. Superintendent Robert Avossa said the county’s population has shifted toward the area.

The move is part of a comprehensive plan that will consolidate six administrative buildings into three. Avossa said the upgrade is long-overdue.

“As schools became old and weren’t of quality for students, we wound up moving adults into those buildings and tried to get another 5, 10, 15 years of use out of them,” Avossa said. “But, what we’ve realized is we’ve gotten to a point where these facilities have become very, very old. The average age of them is over 50 years.”

The plan includes two new learning centers. One will also be in Sandy Springs. The other will be on Flat Shoals Road in southeast Atlanta. Officials estimate the plan will save the district about $22 million.
