Officials Issue Halloween Warnings for Sex Offenders

GA Board of Pardons and Paroles

State officials took preventative measures to make sure this Halloween is as safe as possible.

The Georgia Board of Pardons and Paroles has contacted the more than 1,100 convicted sex offenders in the state over the past few weeks.

The message: stay away from kids on Halloween.

“We know, unfortunately, that this may be a time that a child could potentially be targeted.  This type of supervision activity is not only the right thing to do, it’s what we believe the public expects,” says GBPP spokesman Steve Hayes.

Officials remind trick-or-treaters that there is always safety in numbers.

“We recommend that 12 and under, your guardian, Mom…..Dad, accompany you.  Older, you should go in groups, so no one ever goes alone,” says Beverly Losman with Safe Kids Georgia.

Authorities have also issued a dusk-to-dawn curfew for offenders on Halloween.  However, some are required to spend the evening in Pardons and Paroles office.
