Cobb Commission Approves Braves Stadium 4-1: Live Tweets
BREAKING NEWS: In an historic decision, the Cobb County Commission voted tonight to approve the agreement with the Atlanta Braves to build their new stadium just north of I-285 and west of I-75.
WABE’s Michelle Wirth, who was on the scene covering the meeting, tweeted that the vote was 4-1 in favor. Only Commissioner Lisa Cupid, representing District Four in the southwest of the county, voted against the proposal.
Cupid said she was not opposed to the stadium but was concerned about the rush to make a decision and about the number of “threats” she said she had received to support the stadium. Cupid said she “will not be bullied” into voting for the stadium.
The other four commissioners all spoke in favor of the stadium. Commission Chairman Tim Lee said the process had made the Commission “a better, stronger board.”
After the vote, Atlanta Braves executive vice-president Mike Plant said that the memorandum of understanding (MOU) between Cobb County and the Braves was legally binding.
Plant added, “We’re coming to Cobb County.”
