Isakson To Vote Yes On Budget Bill
Republican U.S. Sen. Johnny Isakson says he’ll vote in favor of a federal budget bill to avert another government shutdown.
“I will vote for cloture and for final passage of the Murray-Ryan budget deal because it finally gives America a budget to operate under and averts government shutdowns through 2015,” the Georgia senator said in a statement. “As a longtime advocate of biennial budgeting, I believe this bipartisan agreement is a good first step toward managing government spending and the fiscal policy of our country. While reforms included in the agreement are modest, most move America in the right direction.”As heard on the radio
The bipartisan bill, crafted by Wisconsin GOP Rep. Paul Ryan and Washington Democratic Sen. Patty Murray, passed the Republican-led House last week 332-94.
Georgia’s other senator, Sen. Saxby Chambliss, hasn’t weighed in on how he’ll vote.
Leading Democrats have said they need at least eight Republican senators to ensure the bill’s passage.
Isakson becomes the latest Republican to voice support for the bill.
The Senate is expected to vote as early as Tuesday on the budget proposal.
The deadline to pass a budget bill and avert a second government shutdown is Jan. 15.
