Decatur Considers Annexation Plan
Officials with the city of Decatur are considering an annexation plan.

Decatur city manager Peggy Merriss says officials are looking to expand the city’s northern boundaries.
Merriss stresses the plan is preliminary. But she says by 2018 most of Decatur’s surrounding areas will probably be incorporated.
“The conversation is no longer, ‘Do you want to be in unincorporated DeKalb County or the City of Decatur?’” she says. “It’s really, ‘Do you want to be in the City of Decatur or some other city?’”
Proposals are on the table for the cities of Lakeside, Briarcliff, Tucker, and Stonecrest. Merriss says whether those plans go forward could affect Decatur’s timeline.
She says the next step is putting a program and project team together. The city tentatively expects the process to unfold in the next 9-12 months.
