Today and tomorrow, Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International will have a hard time claiming the title, “world’s busiest airport.”
Weather-related flight cancelations could keep the place looking more like a ghost town.

Combined, airlines have canceled two-thirds of all scheduled flights in and out of Hartsfield-Jackson today.
That includes all AirTran and Southwest operations, and at least 1,600 Delta flights.
Delta spokesman Morgan Durant says the airline will update those figures around noon, as well as release Thursday’s cancelations. As the winter storm moves northeastward, passengers should expect grounded flights in many of the nation’s hub airports.
Airlines are waiving change fees for travelers who rebook. If a flight is canceled or significantly delayed, passengers are entitled to full refunds.
Atlanta airport officials say they’ll keep the airport open and operational, despite the weather. Hartsfield-Jackson has on hand 100,000 gallons of de-icing fluid, 50,000 pounds of de-icing pellets, and 50,000 pounds of a sand/salt mix.
