BLS Data Shows Job Growth in Atlanta

Atlanta is leading Georgia’s economic recovery.

That’s according to a preliminary report from the Bureau of Labor Statistics.

The data shows the capital of the state added 58,400 jobs in 2013.

That’s an increase of more than 3,000 jobs from 2012.

“First of all, the financial activity sector looks to be doing better, then the information industry is coming back strongly and that’s good news for Atlanta as well.  Plus the continuing growth of professional business services, continuing housing recovery,” says Dr. Jeff Humphreys, the director of economic forecasting at the University of Georgia.

Analysts say the health care, insurance and technology sectors saw a boost in employment opportunities.

Humphreys says there are two main reasons to explain Atlanta’s growth in jobs.

The first is the revival of population growth.

“The second factor is that the Atlanta area is not very dependent on federal jobs.”

Humphreys predicts Atlanta will add 68,000 jobs by the end of 2014.
