Former Atlanta School Chief’s Attorney Responds to Newest Plea Deal

One of the attorneys for former Atlanta Public Schools superintendent Dr. Beverly Hall says despite a recent plea from another APS executive, Hall is looking forward to clearing her name.

WABE’s Rose Scott has this report.

J. Tom Morgan has been on both sides of a criminal case.

Once the DeKalb County District Attorney, Morgan says former APS School chief Dr. Beverly will not plea to criminal acts she’s innocent of regardless any contradictory testimony.

“There will be others who plea, but Dr. Hall will go to trial in May,” says J. Tom Morgan.

When that trial begins in May, the Fulton County district attorney’s office says Millicent Few will testify to criminal acts by Dr. Hall.

That includes ordering the deconstruction of an investigative report relating to Deerwood Academy.

Morgan calls that charge baffling.

“What’s called the Penn Payne report and the proposed destruction of Miss Payne’s drafts. All those drafts are in existence and Miss Payne will testify that the published report is very little different than the drafts that were supposedly destroyed.”

The Payne report refers to Penn Payne, an Atlanta based attorney hired by the district to conduct an outside investigation into cheating misconduct at Deerwood Academy.
