Veteran actress and director Kim Fields landed her first commercial gig starring in Mrs. Butterworth’s syrup commercial at the age of 7. She says it was her first encounter with self-doubt when she noticed that Janet Jackson was auditioning for the same role. Field’s mother saw what was happening, quickly intervened and gave her daughter a pep talk.
“She said don’t let anyone or anything intimidate you — go in there in be the best you and do your best,” said Fields, best known for her roles as Dorothy “Tootie” Ramsey on the NBC sitcom “The Facts of Life,” and as Regine on “Living Single.”
On Tuesday’s edition of “Closer Look,” program host Rose Scott pulls from the “Closer Look” archives to revisit a 2017 conversation she had with Fields.
