Rhodes Hall gets Green Renovations
The 110-year-old Rhodes Hall is going green.
The Georgia Trust for Historic Preservation has raised the $1.7 million dollars it needed to renovate the facility.
The first phase of the work is already finished.
“We got rid of all our old window-unit air conditioners. This building never had central air conditioning. Stopped using our gigantic natural gas-fired boiler and we have installed a state-of-the-art heat pump system,” says Mark McDonald, the president and CEO of the Trust.

Future work on the to-do list includes replacing faucets and toilets which conserve more water and the installation of storm windows to lessen air leakage.
“Everything that we are doing is very respectful to the building and is fully reversible, so that it can be removed in the future if some better technology comes around with no damage to the building,” says McDonald.
Every member of the board and every staff member contributed to the campaign.
The plan is to have all the construction complete before the end of the year.
