Gun ownership among Black women is rising

In 2021, 90% of gun retailers reported an increase in gun ownership among Black people, with an 87% increase among Black women.

Marchelle Davis, a self-defense firearms instructor and founder of My Sister’s Keeper Defense, has made empowerment and self-defense among women her personal and professional mission.

Davis views gun ownership within all communities as a serious choice and entreats interested buyers to reckon with its gravity deeply.

“I think it’s a mental, emotional, [and] spiritual decision. You have to ask yourself, ‘Am I … prepared to take a life in defense of my own?’” Davis said on Tuesday’s edition of “Closer Look.”

“If that answer is ‘No,’ then gun ownership is not for you. In my opinion, that’s okay.”
