On the Monday edition of “Closer Look,” Deke Cateau, CEO of A.G. Rhodes nonprofit nursing home provider, discusses the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on nursing home occupancy, safety and employee shortages.
While the industry has experienced low staffing pre-pandemic, the circumstances of the pandemic have exacerbated these shortages.
As many continue to leave the industry completely, staffing levels have not rebounded to pre-pandemic standards.
At its highest point, one-quarter of pandemic-related deaths in the nation occurred in nursing homes, Cateau explained.
