Georgia homeowners can apply for mortgage assistance from COVID-related impacts

Through the Georgia Department of Community Affairs’ mortgage assistance program, Georgia homeowners who have suffered a financial hardship caused by the pandemic and need help are guaranteed financial assistance in mortgage reinstatement, principal curtailment and housing-related expenses.

Over two years after the height of the pandemic, Georgia homeowners and their families are still recovering from the financial damage brought upon by COVID-19.

On this edition of “Closer Look,” Tonya Cureton Curry, deputy commissioner for housing at the Georgia Department of Community Affairs, discusses the department’s newly introduced mortgage assistance program.

Through these funds, made available through the American Rescue Plan, Georgia homeowners who have suffered a financial hardship caused by the pandemic and need help are guaranteed financial assistance in mortgage reinstatement, principal curtailment and housing-related expenses.

“This money is life-changing funding that’s kind of a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity from the federal government,” said Curry. “We really see it as an opportunity to keep people housed, to keep people safe, to keep people protected … we really want people to know that this money is available.”
